- Survey all diagnostic X-ray equipment in accordance with the National
Council on Radiation Protection and Measurements (NCRP), Joint
Commission on Accreditation of Health Organization (JCAHO) requirements
and various regulatory agencies. The survey is to include the
following performance evaluations, safety evaluations, and output
measurements:
- Light beam to X-ray beam alignment
- Accuracy of beam size indicators
- Overall performance of radiographic fluoroscopic collimators
- Output versus kVp, mAs and distance
- Proper function of interlocks, timers and exposure switches
- Perform tube performance evaluation on each radiographic unit which
includes survey as outline above plus:
- Radiographic time accuracy
- kVp accuracy
- Reproductibility of kVp, timer and output
- MA linearity
- Accuracy of distance indicators
- Half-value layer determination and appropriateness of total
filtration
- Evaluation of Automatic Exposure Control balance and performance
- Perform tube performance evaluation of each fluoroscopic unit which
includes as outlined in the first paragraph, plus:
- kVp accuracy
- Exposure rate vs kVp
- Exposure rate in Automatic Exposure Control through use of
appropriate phantoms
- Low contrast resolution of the imaging system
- High contrast resolution of the imaging system
- Half-value layer determination and appropriateness of total
filtration
- Evaluation of output in other imaging modes
- In addition, for all radiographic equipment:
- Monitor patient exposures for techniques and equipment.
Provide a summary of measured exposures with comparable national
standards in accordance with JCAHO standard DR.2.2.4.2
